The German delegation to the United Nations claimed on Monday that Berlin remains committed to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA.

Iran Press/America: In a message, the German delegation to the United Nations reiterated its claim that Berlin remains committed to maintaining and fully implementing UNSCR 2231.

Germany also expressed its concern over the reduction of Iran's obligations in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The European Union and the European sides of Iran's nuclear deal (Germany, Britain and France) have promised to uphold the agreement after the US's illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA (May 8, 2018), but so far there has been no success in implementing the practical steps promised to uphold the agreement.

In such circumstances, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran announced on May 8, 2019, on the anniversary of the US withdrawal from JCPOA, that Iran will gradually reduce its obligations under Articles 26 and 36 of this agreement in order to strike a balance between Iran's obligations and rights.

On Sunday, January 5, 2020, the Iranian government announced in a statement the fifth and final step in reducing the obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran in JCPOA.

Following Articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA, Iran has the right to suspend its obligations in whole or in part if the other party fails to comply with its obligations.

Iran has stressed that it is ready to return to its obligations if the sanctions are lifted and it benefits from JCPOA interests.
