Tehran (IP) - Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi said that Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri was the harbinger of Islam and made most efforts to unite people.

Iran PressIran News: Salehi added: "Taskhiri has gained lots of achievements in promoting Islamic Ideas."

Elaborating on Ayatollah Taskhiri's character, the minister stated: "Ayatollah Taskhiri emphasized the Muslims' unity and solidarity, and sought commonalities among Muslims and even tried to expand them."

The minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance noted: "Taskhiri stressed on more Muslim's cooperation and tried to avoid talking about the differences among them."

Talking via video, Salehi added that he has eloquent language and tried to interact with all.

An international meeting on honouring the thoughts and personality of Ayatollah Taskhiri, the former head of the Organization of Islamic Culture and Communication, was held on Tuesday in Tehran. The meeting was held in the presence of figures from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic world (in person and by video conference).

Ayatollah Taskhiri died of a heart attack on August 19, 2016, at the age of 76.
