The EU representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting in Vienna welcomed Iran's recent agreement with the agency, stressing the need to implement safeguards agreements.

Iran PressEurope: "The European Union supports the Agency's efforts to resolve the issues reported by the Director-General," Stephan Klement said in a statement.

He said the European Union would continue to work with the international community to preserve Iran's nuclear agreement 2015 known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which is an important multilateral achievement.

The EU representative also lamented the US withdrawal from the agreement and the reimposition of sanctions against Iran, saying: "The lifting of sanctions is the major part of the JCPOA."

Klement described the JCPOA as a key element in the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture, which is vital to regional, European, and global security.

The European diplomat went on to say that JCPOA guarantees the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program and therefore its full implementation is essential.

He called on all countries to refrain from actions that would impede the fulfillment of their obligations under the JCPOA.
