Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations says resolving the Palestinian issue is the key to the region's problems.

Iran PressAmerica: Vasily Nebenzya said at a UN Security Council meeting on Palestine on Thursday that Russia's strategic red line has not changed. "Moscow supports a fair solution to the Palestinian issue based on relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, the Madrid Principles and the Arab Peace Initiative," he added.

"Given Coronavirus pandemic, Russia supports the UN Secretary-General's call for a global and immediate ceasefire," said the Russian diplomat.

"The potential consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic in the Gaza Strip are particularly worrying," he said.

"We emphasize the provision of medical equipment through the World Health Organization and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)," said Nebenzya, pointing to the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.

"We are concerned about Israel's plans to unilaterally implement the so-called 'Deal of the Century' and annex the Palestinian territories," he said.

He also stressed the need for Palestinian unity, adding that Russia was trying to bring the Palestinian cause together.
