Tehran (IP) - On the sideline of today's cabinet session, Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi announces the launch of a new satellite, Zafar, into space, saying this is an important research project which we hope will succeed.

Iran Press/Iran news: On the sideline of today's cabinet session, Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi talked about the imminent launch of a new Iranian-built satellite, Zafar, into space.

He said: "Zafar satellite has three missions, the first of which is to send back high-resolution images to earth. The second mission is telecommunications. The satellite has 256 active communication channels. The third mission is to collect space information for space scientists."

He further noted, "The satellite weighs 113 kg and will be placed in an orbit over 500 km above the earth. Both the satellite itself and the satellite-carrying rocket (called Simorgh) are important research projects, and we hope the launch will be successful. The satellite launch will be covered by the national media. This is a scientific endeavor. We hope it will be a success. There are two versions of this satellite and if the launch of the first one is not successful, we shall have a second attempt. 101/211
