The Heaf of IRIB World Service apologised for the cancellation of a press conference, saying professor Massoud Soleimani who recently returned to Iran after spending more than a year in prison in the United States, was taken to hospital with a heart condition, just before he was due to appear at a press conference in Tehran, leading to the cancellation of the event.

Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking on Sunday in PressTV headquarters in Tehran, Peyman Jebelli said professor Soleimani has been hospitalised with a heart problem.

It is worth noting that Iranian university professor, Masoud Soleimani, a 49-year-old stem cell researcher and scientist, left Iran on a sabbatical leave last year but was arrested upon arrival in Chicago and transferred to a prison in Atlanta, Georgia for unspecified reasons. He spent more than 13 months in prison in the United States.

He was handed over to Iranian officials in Switzerland in the early hours of Saturday 7 December 2019, after a prisoner swap arrangement was agreed between Tehran and Washington. Soleimani arrived at Tehran's Mehrabad International airport on Saturday evening 7 December and was warmly welcomed by his family members and Iranian officials.

On his return home from Switzerland, professor Soleimani was accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who was closely involved in the prisoner swap arrangement between Tehran and Washington.
