Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a telephone call with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that any agreement between Turkey and Russia would focus on combating all forms of terrorism.

Iran Press/Middle East: A telephone call was made Tuesday between President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation in northern Syria.

During the phone call, President Putin underlined Syria’s territorial integrity, saying that any agreement between Russia and Turkey will focus on combating all forms of terrorism and dissociate any separatist agendas on Syrian territories, SANA News Agency reported.

President al-Assad, for his part, affirmed the categorical rejection of any invasion of the Syrian lands under any title or pretext, saying that owners of the separatist targets bear the responsibility for the developments of events in the current time.

The President also stressed the return of residents to their regions to stop any previous attempts of any demographic change to which some sides tried to impose, affirming Syria’s determination to combat terrorism and occupation in any span of the Syrian territories with all legitimate means.

Russia and Turkey have agreed to jointly police a contentious buffer zone in north-eastern Syria in a deal they say will end bloodshed along the border, just hours before a ceasefire was due to expire.

"Turkish and Russian troops will conduct joint patrols in northern Syria within 10 km of the border," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, adding that Ankara would also work with Moscow for the safe return of Syrian refugees now in Turkey.
