Tehran (IP) - Iran's deputy minister of agriculture said that rice production in the country will reach 3 million tons this year.

Iran Press/Iran news: Deputy Minister of Planning and Economics of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Abdulmahdi Bakhshandeh referring to a 5 percent increase in rice production in the country announced that Iran is self-sufficient for the first time in rice production.  

Bakhshandeh highlighted that self-sufficiency in rice production would save over $ 1.5 billion for Iran.

The official also noted that the country needs 3 million tons of rice per year, which this year will produce about 3.5 to 5 million tons that meet the domestic demand.
