Iran's Oil Minister has said Iran has finished installing the largest drilling rig in the world at the South Pars gas field.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh announced on Saturday that the third offshore platform belonging to Phase 14 of the supergiant South Pars gas field has been successfully installed earlier in the day by Iranian crew and experts in Persian Gulf waters off the southern Iranian coast.

The super-size platform, which is dubbed as SPD-14B, weighs 2,400 tons, Iran Press reported.

“The installation would accelerate the end of development and expansion operations at the offshore section of phase 14 of South Pars gas field,” said Zanganeh.

Iran’s South Pars project has become a symbol of the nation's capabilities and determination to overcome the cruel sanctions of the United States, reported Iran press.

There are a total of four rigs planned for the entire phase 14 and the SPD-14B is the third one and one of the two main platforms in this phase.

The project of phase 14 of the South Pars gas field, is expected to increase Iran’s daily gas output by two billion cubic feet (over 56 million cubic meters) per day.

South Pars field is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

The giant reservoir is being developed in 24 phases.
