Iran Press/Iran news: On the latest developments of the Ukranian plane crash in Tehran, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi noted on Friday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is offering any assistance to facilitate the affairs of countries whose nationals have been affected in the tragic incident.
He went on to say that the results of technical reviews will be publicly exposed in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations, with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, Boeing, and with experts from other affected countries after completion.
After its engine caught fire, the plane belonging to Ukrainian airlines crashed near Tehran minutes after the take-off from Imam Khomeini International Airport. All 167 passengers and nine crew members onboard the aircraft were killed in the crash.
Responsibility for the investigation sits with the Iranians, but under the UN Civil Aviation Conventions, they can request assistance from any other country, if they don’t have the capacity to conduct it themselves.
There are many other countries with the necessary expertise to assist, including recovering flight data from recorders with very significant damage.
During the past 15 months, two crashes involving the US Boeing Max 737 plane occurred, calling into question the safety of this kind of airplane.
In March 2019, more than 157 people were killed in a crash of a Boeing Max 737 belonging to the Ethiopian Airlines. Also, 189 people were killed due to the crash of a Boeing Max 737 belonging to Indonesian airline in October 2018.
