Iran Press/Iran news: In 2008, the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization of Iran registered the Badab-e Surt stepped travertine terraces as the second natural heritage of Iran in the list of national monuments, after Mount Damavand.
Badab-e Surt, the world's second-largest stepped travertine terraces after Turkey's Pamukkale water terraces, is located at an altitude of 1,841 meters above sea level and includes several springs with completely different waters in terms of color, smell, taste, and volume.
It has been created over thousands of years as the flowing of mineral-rich water from two mineral hot springs cooled and deposited carbonate minerals, forming stepped travertine terraces in different colors of orange, yellow, and red.
Badab-e Surt is one of the pristine tourist attractions of Mazandaran province, in northern Iran.
