Tehran (IP) - Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei planted three saplings on Tuesday to observe the nationwide occasion of Natural Resources Week.

Iran PressIran news: Ayatollah Khamenei planted three saplings, including an olive sapling representing the unique resistance of the Palestinian nation, a cypress sapling and a fruit tree sapling, in his office premises on March 5, 2024, on the occasion of Iran’s National Tree Planting Day.

Every year, Iranians across the country plant trees to mark the week named after natural resources in the run-up to the new calendar year on March 21.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the recent Iranian elections, stating that it was an epic and a jihad for the country during a brief address to reporters.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution appreciated the Iranian people's participation in the elections, calling it a civilizational endeavor.

On Friday, March 1, 2024, people across Iran came to the polls for the 12th round of parliamentary elections and the sixth round of the Assembly of Experts. 

Ayatollah Khamenei said: "With their presence, the Iranian nation fulfilled both a social and civilizational duty and did a jihad."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the enemies' attempts during the past year to discourage the people from going to the polls in the recent elections: "For about a year, the enemies of the Iranian nation and the enemies of Islamic Iran and the enemies of the Islamic Republic, from all over the world, tried to dissuade the people from participating in the elections and make the elections lackluster, but the people countered the enemy's move and made a great and epic move and it was a jihad."

Ayatollah Khamenei also appreciated all those who contributed to the observation of the elections. 

He also pointed to the flood inundated the southern parts of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, and emphasized the continuation of the aid, both governmental and non-governmental, to the flood-hit areas.

The leader called on those who have the ability to offer help to step in to assist the flood-hit area of the country.
