Iran Press/Asia: Australia prime minister Scott Morrison, said on Wednesday that Australia should not join any US-led military action against Iran. He also rejected speculation about US military action against Iran under the pretext of recent attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
But as he prepares to fly to Washington, Scott Morrison has dismissed questions about offering the United States support for direct military action, Nine Network reported.
In his remarks, he also said that "The US statement was about the capability, not necessarily its intention. So I think we need to be cautious and sensitive in this area."
After US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo directly accused Iran of playing a role in the attack on Aramco, US president Donald Trump wrote in a tweet that the US is "ready to fire" to respond to the perpetrators.
Some have interpreted Trump's tweet as likely US military action against Iran, but a senior US official withdrew the following day with a statement explaining the Iranian military threat.
Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah fighters on Saturday conducted drone strikes on Saudi Arabia’s two oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais.
Iran's president says the Yemeni army's recent drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities were merely for legitimate self-defence, and no one can expect the Yemenis to remain silent when their country is destroyed.
At the same time, Iran has categorically rejected US allegations that it was behind drone attacks with foreign minister Zarif accusing his American counterpart Mike Pompeo of “maximum deceit” while suggesting talks to get out of the conflict. 101/211/216
