Iran Press/Iran news: Responding to the question of Iran Press about Iran's offer to hold trilateral talks to resolve the Idlib crisis, Ali Rabiei said on Monday that the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani has discussed Idlib with his Russian and Turkish counterparts during the past days.
"The situation in Idlib is worrying. We are worried about the Astana agreement because we see it as an appropriate bedrock to resolve problems," Rabiei said.
He also noted that Iran's offer to hold talks over Idlib is to make readiness for further cooperation based on the Astana agreement.
"We call on all parties to show restraint; we also call on our friends to respect the Syrian sovereignty right and previous agreements and to use dialogue instead of military measures," the Iranian official added.
Iran’s President Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Putin on Saturday, said that the situation in Syria's Idlib is worrying and the decisions made under the Astana Process must be operationalized as soon as possible.
In another phone conversation, Iranian President Rouhani told his Turkish counterpart Erdogan that innocent people should be protected in Syria's Idlib province.
Following the escalation of tensions in Syria’s Idlib, Turkey has sent thousands of troops and heavy military hardware into Syria and Erdogan has warned Turkey would launch a full-scale offensive to repel Syrian forces unless they pulled back from Turkish observation posts in the region.
In recent days, the Syrian army has managed to liberate several areas and villages in the south and east of Idlib province. The province of Idlib is the last base of terrorists in Syria.
Syrian Army has reclaimed significant territory since launching a stepped-up offensive in December, including areas around some of the Turkish military posts in Idlib.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened the Syrian government in recent days, saying the offensive violates a 2018 deal with Russia meant to prevent a broad military operation.
Iran does not reject any sincere offer to help its medical community
Ali Rabiei, regarding the coronavirus outbreak, said that Iran does not reject any sincere offer to help the country's medical community.
"As we fought with ISIS through a multinational front, we will willingly cooperate with the world in containing coronavirus epidemic," Ali Rabiei said at his press conference.
He went on to say that the US has not had enough veracity in helping Iran with the coronavirus issue.
"Instead of words, the US can practically lift the sanctions, or even some particular sanctions," Rabiei stressed, referring to the illegal US sanctions against Iran.
Earlier on Friday, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's expression of readiness to help Iran in the fight against the coronavirus is nothing more than propaganda, it is also hypocritical and ridiculous and part of a political game which Washington plays.
