Najaf (IP) — Millions of pilgrims make their way to Karbala each year to participate in the Arbaeen gathering, with many choosing the historic "Tariq al-Ulama" route.

Iran PressWest Asa: According to Iran Press, the Tariq al-Ulama, located along the Euphrates River and passing through the groves of Najaf, is the oldest Arbaeen walking route in Iraq, stretching approximately 90 kilometers.

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, is recognized as the world's largest annual public gathering. Each year, on the twentieth of Safar, millions of Shia Muslims walk to Karbala from various starting points, including Najaf, to honor the sacrifices made during the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

The pilgrimage serves as a spiritual journey and symbolizes the enduring struggle against oppression and injustice.

Pilgrims often receive hospitality along the way, with volunteers providing food, drinks, and medical assistance.

As the Arbaeen observance approaches, the Tariq al-Ulama route is expected to see a significant influx of participants, reflecting the deep cultural and religious significance of this event for Shia Muslims worldwide.
