Ghana (IP) - Thousands of people from various regions across Ghana have undertaken Arbaeen March to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossain (a), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.

Iran PressAfrica: Arbaeen is a Shiite annual religious practice usually conducted on the 20th Safar of the Islamic calendar to mark the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a), the grandson of Prophet Muhammed who was martyred on the 10 Muharram 61 AH (10 October 680) in the battle of Karbala against Yazid Army the tyrant and illegitimate ruler of Umayyed.

Alhaji Ali Saifullah, one of the organizers of Arbaeen rituals told Iran Press that the purpose of this tradition was to experience the trial and commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the household of the Holy Prophet in captivity who was chained and dragged barefoot from Karbala in Iraq to Damascus (Levant) in Syria 61 years after Hijra.

"Arbaeen program is very significant, its historical background is the fact that when the holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) passed away, his household particularly his grandson Imam Hussein and his companions was subjected to brutalities and all kinds of torture at the land of Karbala.

Amina Asouk who also took part in the Arbaeen ceremony said whoever sympathizes with the prophet Muhammed must sympathize with what happened to Imam Hussain and whoever sympathizes with Palestine should know that what is happening to Palestine also happened to Imam Hussein a long time ago in Karbala.
