Iran and Qatar have signed a maritime border agreement at the joint coastguard meeting.

Iran Press/Iran news: border guard commanderو Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei and Qatar's coastal and border security assistant chief Lt. Col, Abdulaziz Al-Mohannadi have signed a maritime border agreement on Monday to ensure existing agreements on the matter signed by both nations, according to Iran Press.

Pointing to the 268 km of Iran-Qatar common maritime border, Brigadier General Rezaei said that memorandum of understanding is a sign of the 'fruitful cooperation' between both sides that reflects the positive interaction of the two countries in the border area.

Both sides also discussed coordination in relation to routine maritime border patrols for the two countries, who share a 268 km-long border in Persian Gulf waters. 

According to the Iranian border guard commander, the Qatari government have built a special port for Islamic Republic vessels and provides Iranian merchants with proper services.

Stressing the importance of joint rescue maneuver in the region, he expressed hope that the trade between Iran and Qatar would be improved.

The 15th joint coast guard meeting of Iran and Qatar held on Sunday in Tehran to develop bilateral ties.

On July 30, Iran and the UAE held the 6th joint coast guard meeting in Tehran after a six-year hiatus.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including shared borders, nationals commuting between the two nations, the issue of contraband, drug trafficking, as well as ways for facilitating the maritime connections between the two countries. 104/208
