President Hassan Rouhani wrapped up 4-day trip to New York

(IP) Iranian President wrapped up his four-day trip to New York participating at the 74th United Nations General Assembly session where he outlined the Islamic Republic's peace initiative as Hormuz Peace Endeavor.

Iran PressIran news: Hassan Rouhani delivered a keynote speech to the UN General Assembly session and held meetings with presidents and senior officials of the other countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly including European and Asian countries. He also met the media elites in New York and some experts in US foreign policy.

Iranian President told the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday Iran will never hold talks with the United States under pressure, but added that lifting all the sanctions Washington imposed on Tehran and respecting a UN Security Council resolution could pave the way for talks.

Elsewhere, Rouhani noted that the Middle East is burning in the flames of war, bloodshed, aggression, occupation, religious and sectarian fanaticism and extremism; and under such circumstances, the suppressed people of Palestine are the biggest victim. Discrimination, appropriation of lands, settlement expansions and killings continue to be practiced against the Palestinians.

He stated, “The security of the region shall be provided when American troops are pulled out. The security shall not be supplied with American weapons and intervention. After 18 years, the US has failed to reduce acts of terrorism; however, the Islamic Republic of Iran managed to terminate the scourge of Daesh with the assistance of the neighboring nations and governments. The ultimate way towards peace and security in the Middle East passes through inward democracy and outward diplomacy. Security cannot be purchased or supplied by foreign governments."

“Based on the historical responsibility of my country to preserve security, peace, stability and progress in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, I invite all countries that are affected by the developments in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz to the "coalition of the HOPE”  namely Hormuz Peace Endeavor," the Iranian president went on to say.

Rouhani stressed that the aim of "coalition of HOPE" is to promote peace, stability, progress and prosperity of all the inhabitants in the area of the Strait of Hormuz, and mutual understanding and peaceful relations and friendship among them. The initiative includes the different areas of cooperation such as energy security, freedom of navigation and the free movement of oil and other resources and the countries of the Strait of Hormuz and beyond.

Hassan Rouhani also in a press conference on Thursday on the sidelines of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, slammed Europe for showing an "inability or lack of willingness" to keep the Iran's nuclear deal going, putting "all the costs and burden on the shoulders of Iran".

President noted that the Europeans first stated that they work through central banks, then after a few months, they said they would fulfill their financial commitments through the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) system, and in the next phase, after a while, they said working through Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) would do the financial part of the nuclear deal which did not work in practice.

Referring to Saudi-led war on Yemeni people, Hassan Rouhani said that the western countries must stop providing arms to Saudi Arabia which it uses to kill Yemeni people.

Rouhani added that Yemeni people have a legitimate right to defend themselves against any aggression.

The United Nations General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the UN, the only one in which all member nations have equal representation. The main deliberation of the member states is policy-making on global issues including the International Campaign Against Terrorism, pursuing Millennium Goals of the Sustainable Development, Promoting Multilateralism and Campaign against the US uni-polarity. This organ also addresses the delicate international issues which are in blatant violation of the United Nations Charter, and ensures the sovereignty, equality of the member states through a collective campaign to advance the Human Rights and International Campaign Against Poverty vis-a-vis the US arbitrary sanctions on sovereign states which  paralyzes national economies amounted to the Crimes Against Humanity in International Law.
