Tehran (IP) - The 11th international exhibition of decorative stones, construction materials, mines, and associated machinery is currently open to the public at Tehran's International Exhibitions Fairground, with 120 domestic and foreign construction companies taking part.

Iran PressIran news:  The 11th international exhibition of decorative stones, construction materials, mines, and associated machinery and equipment is currently open to the public in Tehran.

For over two decades now Iran is ranked among the top five countries which produce superior decorative stones for the construction and housing industry. Iran has the capacity to produce 30 million tonnes of decorative stones per annum, but only 35 percent of this capacity is actually realised.

In 2018, the last year for which accurate figures are available, Iran exported 305 million dollars worth of decorative stones to the rest of the world, about 144 million dollars of which related to fully-processed stones which were exported to 69 countries. Iran also exported 161 million dollars worth of semi-processed stones used in the construction industry.

Two countries, Iraq and United Arab Emirates, received 65 percent by weight of all fully-processed stones which were exported by Iran in 2018.

Other major purchasers of Iranian decorative stones and construction materials were Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Qatar, Afghanistan, Georgia and Russia.
