Iran Press/ Iran News: On Thursday, the third day of his bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 76th UN General Assembly in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Nigerian Foreign Minister Jeffrey Onima.
Amir-Abdollahian, while emphasizing the serious determination of the new Iranian government to expand relations with Nigeria, mentioned the facilitation of trade between the two countries' private sectors as a necessary factor to achieve this goal. And in this regard, he noted that establishing a shipping line and facilitating business visas could be an effective proposal in expanding relations.
Pointing out that the case of Sheikh Zakzaki reached a good point in a constructive action by the Nigerian authorities, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to continue its support for Nigeria in the international community.
The Nigerian Foreign Minister also expressed hope that the situation in trade and economic relations has not kept pace with good political connections and expressed hope that relations between the two countries could be raised to a new level.
Jeffrey Onima called attention to public relations and cooperation in industry and agriculture, among other priorities, and called for cooperation between the two countries in the field of counter-terrorism.
