Iran Press/ America: Secretary-General Guterres warns that without decisive international action to prevent further deterioration, Israel may proceed with 'ethnic cleansing' in Gaza.
The remarks by Guterres come in the wake of the Israeli regime's brutal attacks on northern Gaza on Tuesday, which claimed at least 93 lives in Beit Lahiya. According to the United Nations, Tuesday's assault was one of at least seven attacks by Israel in the past week, resulting in a significant toll on local residents.
Simultaneously, aid shipments to Gaza have plummeted to unprecedented lows, according to recent reports. This sharp decline has intensified speculation surrounding Israel's purported plan to expel the remaining Palestinian inhabitants from the Gaza Strip.
Resilience of Palestinian People
Speaking on the sidelines of the COP16 Biodiversity Conference in Colombia, the UN Secretary-General said, "The intention might be for the Palestinians to leave Gaza, for others to occupy it, but there has been – and I pay tribute to the courage and the resilience of the Palestinian people and to the determination of the Arab world – to avoid the ethnic cleansing becoming a reality."
He added, "We will do everything possible to help them remain there and to avoid ethnic cleansing that might occur if there is not strong determination from the international community."
Jordan's Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, also informed his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, last week that ethnic cleansing is presently occurring in Gaza.
Deadly Humanitarian Crisis
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime has waged a devastating war against the residents of the Gaza Strip, resulting in widespread destruction, a deadly humanitarian crisis, and the death or injury of thousands of Palestinians, mostly women and children.
Following its reduction of the Gaza Strip to rubble, the regime has launched extensive attacks on various areas of southern Lebanon, prompting global condemnation. Moreover, the Israeli regime's parliament has recently, and in defiance of international warnings, approved a law banning the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) within the occupied Palestinian territories.
