Iran Press/ Asia: Tehran emphasized the need for practical measures to counter actions that restrict multilateral trade.
In his address, Mohammad Atabak, Iran's Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade and head of the Iranian delegation, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Pakistani government. He congratulated Belarus on its new membership in the SCO and Russia on assuming the presidency of the Council of Prime Ministers.
International Challenges and Regional Cooperation
Atabak underscored the growing importance of regional cooperation mechanisms like the SCO, especially at a time when the international order faces numerous challenges in maintaining global peace, stability, and security. He emphasized that the SCO’s principles, grounded in international law—including respect for sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states—are crucial in today's world.
"The interconnected world we live in faces complex and multilayered threats and opportunities. We can no longer rely on old arrangements. Instead, new collective efforts must be organized to address these contemporary challenges," Atabak stated.
Condemning Israeli Aggression
Atabak delivered a sharp condemnation of Israel's genocidal actions, particularly its military assaults on Lebanon and Gaza, where innocent women and children have been targeted. He called these actions "a clear example of genocide" and a violation of all international legal norms and human rights, describing them as a direct threat to international peace and security.
He further highlighted recent aggressive actions by Israel against Iran, a member of the SCO, which Iran responded to decisively. These attacks, Atabak noted, are clear violations of peace and have broader implications for international security. He called on SCO members to pay closer attention to Israel’s crimes and take a stronger stance against them.
