Iran Press/West Asia: After October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime staged a genocide in Gaza, in 417 days, the Israeli war machine massacred at least 44,249 Palestinians and nearly 2,900 people in Lebanon.
In the 60-day ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese Army will deploy some 5,000 troops south of the Litani River, at 33 posts at the border with occupied lands. On the other hand, Israeli forces will withdraw their forces over 60 days as Lebanon's army takes control of territory nearby.
The 2006 resolution after the Israel-Hezbollah War, UN Security Council Resolution 1701 calls for the Lebanese armed forces and UN peacekeepers to be the only military presence between Lebanon’s border with Israel and the Litani River, about 30km inside southern Lebanon.
Israeli forces have tried to force UNIFIL to leave the area in last month's attacks that injured several peacekeepers, but a UNIFIL spokesman said at the time " We are staying. We are in the south of Lebanon under a Security Council mandate, so it’s important to keep an international presence and to keep the UN flag in the area."
Many Settlements in the northern occupied Lands suffered major destruction.
Hezbollah Reaction to Ceasfire
“After reviewing the agreement signed by the enemy government, we will see if there is a match between what we stated and what was agreed upon by the Lebanese officials,” Mahmoud Qamati, deputy chair of Hezbollah’s political council said.
In Southern Beirut, streams of cars carrying people displaced by the months of fighting were seen heading south, just over an hour after the ceasefire took effect.
On the other side, Israeli settlers don’t return to the north. So far, there are no plans, neither to return settlers to the north nor to compensate them, Israeli army radio quotes the head of the Settlement Council.
Why did Israel Accept Ceasefire?
Nearly 14 months after the war when Netanyahu and its former war minister faced with International Criminal Court (ICC) Arrest Warrant for "criminal responsibility for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity", the Israeli Military couldn't achieve any victory on the ground.
Being accountable for genocide and War crimes, Netanyahu faced waves of anger inside. Families of Zionist prisoners in Gaza increased their pressure.
An All-Out Security-Political Defeat
Meanwhile, after accepting the ceasefire agreement many opposition figures confessed that the Israeli Security Cabinet's decision led by Netanyahu was a complete defeat both politically and Security.
While Netanyahu doesn't want the ceasefire seen as a sign of surrender, Many Israelis show their anger at an 'irresponsible and hasty' ceasefire.
"Surrender" is exactly what Netanyahu is being accused of by his political rivals - and some of his political allies too.
One poll yesterday suggested that more than 80% of Netanyahu’s support base opposed a deal, and residents in the north of Israel - large numbers of whom have been evacuated from their homes - are angry too, Israeli Media outlet reported.
Analyst inside Occupied Lands says that but Israeli armed forces are tired, its economy is suffering, and tens of thousands of its residents are displaced.
