Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Oil said 95 percent of the Iranian people were connected to the country's gas distribution network.

Iran PressIran News: Attending the parliament's open session on Tuesday to answer the lawmakers' questions, Bijan Zangeneh explained during the last 8 years, the number of villages enjoying natural gas increased 2.5 times, that was from 14,000 to more than 35,000 villages.

According to Zangeneh, Iran's oil refineries produce 7,000 tons of gas, of which 5,000 tons are distributed in the country.

Noting that Iran's gas export has doubled, he said the ministry did not oppose distributing gas. Still, it preferred the distribution of Compact Natural Gas (CNG) as a priority and export of liquid gas for bringing higher currency income.

The minister of oil noted that about $50 billion is needed to maintain the production of the Southern Pars gas field along with other gas fields.
