IP - Brokered by UAE, Russia, and Ukraine exchanged 230 prisoners of war on Saturday, for the first time after Ukraine cross-border advancing into the Kursk region of Russia.

Iran PressEurope: According to the Russian state news agency 115 military forces who were captured in Kursk were freed in the prisoner exchange.

“As a result of a negotiation process, 115 Russian servicemen taken prisoner in the Kursk region have been returned from territories controlled by the Kyiv regime,” the Russian defense ministry said.

The ministry said the troops were currently in neighboring Belarus, where they are receiving “psychological-medical help” and will be brought to Russia soon.

Also, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the release of 115 soldiers, including the National Guard, Ukrainian Armed Forces, Navy, and State Border Guard Service members, from Russian captivity.

The United Arab Emirates said it had “successfully mediated a new captives exchange between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine.”

Kyiv and Moscow have held rounds of prisoner exchanges throughout the more than two-year war.

On Saturday, Ukraine marked its 33rd Independence Day as war with Russia reached a 30-month milestone. No fireworks, parades, or concerts were planned and instead, Ukrainians marked the day with commemorations for civilians and soldiers killed in the war.

The exchange came as Kyiv mounted its offensive in Kursk and as Russia eyes more east Ukrainian towns. It also came on Ukrainian Independence Day.
