(IP) - Three Iranian athletes managed to win bronze medals as they went on Shiapchang (taekwondo mattress) on the fourth day of the 2023 Asian Games underway in Hangzhou, China.

Iran PressAsia: Matin Rezaei lost 2-1 against Zeid Abdul Karim from Jordan in the men's -68kg semi-final of the Asian Games and won the bronze medal of the events.

Mehran Barkhordari another Iranian taekwondo player was defeated by his rival from South Korea in the -80 kg weight category due to more faults, and received the bronze medal, too.

Melika Mirhosseini, the female Iranian taekwondo player failed to defeat her Uzbek rival in the -67 kg weight category and thus failed to ascend to the finals; She also won the gold medal. 

The 2022 Asian Games boasts an impressive participation of over 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, surpassing even the Olympics in terms of participants. Iran has sent a total of 289 male and female athletes to compete across 34 different sports events at the event.

The event has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now take place in 2023.
