Iran Press/ Middle East: 170 Iraqi lawmakers signed a resolution and required the government to request the withdrawal of US forces from the country. This is while only 150 votes are needed for the draft resolution to be approved.
The extraordinary session on Sunday came two days after the US assassination of LTE. General Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces deputy chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
“There is no need for the presence of American forces after defeating ISIS,” said Ammar al-Shibli, a member of the parliamentary legal committee, Reuters reported.
“We have our own armed forces which are capable of protecting the country,” he said.
In an open session of the Iraqi parliament, the lawmakers decided to cancel the Iraq-US security agreement.
Just a bit earlier, an open session of the Iraqi parliament began to consider a plan to deport US troops from its territory a few minutes ago.
Iraqi parliamentarians chanted "No to America" at the beginning of the public session.
"The government commits to revoke its request for assistance from the international coalition fighting the Islamic States due to the end of military operations in Iraq and the achievement of victory," the resolution read.
"The Iraqi government must work to end the presence of any foreign troops on Iraqi soil and prohibit them from using its land, airspace or water for any reason."
