Tehran (IP)- The chief of the red crescent society of Iran and the Secretary-General of the Austrian Red Cross discussed the grounds for cooperation.

Iran PressEurope: Karim Hemmati, chief of the red crescent society, said in a video conference with the Secretary-General of the Austrian Red Cross, Michael Opriesnig: "The Coronavirus has put pressure on all countries and the situation in Iran has become more difficult due to the US tough sanctions."

Hemmati added: "Although Iran has the currency to buy the necessary drugs, it is challenging to supply some drugs and medical items to deal with COVID-19."

The Secretary-General of the Austrian Red Cross also stressed that the embargo on the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is contrary to internationally recognized protocols, adding: "The Austrian Red Cross has tried to lift the embargo on the Iranian Red Crescent Society but has not achieved any results."

Michael Opriesnig also said that Iran had provided good services to African countries, adding: "The Austrian Red Cross will also use Iran's experience to help these countries."
