The Iraqi representative of the Supreme Islamic Council in Tehran said Iraq won’t be a hub for US conspiracy against Iran.

Iran Press/Middle East: Majed Ghamas told IRNA on Saturday that the new Iraqi government formed under the leadership of Adil Abdul-Mahdi will not, under any circumstances, allow the country to become a scene of US conspiracy against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Referring to the 5-day visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Iraq, he said the visit took place at a very critical point in time.

Majed Ghamas added: At this critical juncture, it is necessary to establish a unified approach to regional policies and to prevent any foreign intervention and dominance in the region, and this is why this visit was very important.”

He further noted that the US and its regional allies are orchestrating some suspicious and strange plots on the regional and political spheres to isolate Iran and undermine the Resistance Front.

The Iranian foreign minister during his five-day visit to Iraq highlighted brotherly ties between the two countries.

Zarif arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad last Sunday and ended his visit on Thursday.

In addition to meeting with the president, the prime minister and the speaker of Iraqi parliament in Baghdad, Zarif met with the Kurdistan region officials in Irbil and Sulaimaniyah.

The Iranian foreign minister's visit to five Iraqi cities and the warm welcome of Iraqi Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish officials proves that Tehran has adopted an identical policy towards various Iraqi ethnic groups.

On 9 Jan 2019, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, speaking in the Jordanian capital Amman said the United States is redoubling its diplomatic and commercial efforts to counter Tehran's influence in the region.

Zarif in a message on Thursday also promised to find mutual cooperation between the private sectors of Iran and Iraq.

He tweeted on Thursday “Honored to be in Najaf and Karbala: home of the Sacred Shrines. Moved by people's sentiments. As brave Iranian youth stood with Iraqi brothers in the fight against extremist terror, our private sectors will stand together in mutually beneficial endeavors to improve the lives of all.”
