Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bahram Ghassemi expressed condolence to the families of the victims of the deadly incident of an Iraqi ferry sinking in Tigris and expressed sympathy and sorrow with the Iraqi government and people on Thursday night, Iran Press reported.
Earlier, Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi also condoled with the Iraqi government and people and sympathized with bereaved families of the victims of the sad incident, Iran Press reported.
At least 83 people were killed when an overloaded ferry capsized Thursday on the Tigris River near the Iraqi city of Mosul.
Officials said more than 180 people were on board celebrating the Solar New Year, Nowruz and Mother's Day.
Most of the victims were women and children struggling to swim in the fast-moving current.
Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi traveled to Mosul from Baghdad and announced a three-day national mourning for the victims. 208/104
