Iran Press/Iran news: Asked about the status of Iranian handmade carpets in the world, the head of Iran's National Carpet Center (INCC) Fereshteh Dastpak told Iran Press reporter in an exclusive interview in Tabriz that Iran's handmade carpets have always been considered as top quality, and that hand-woven carpets can be regarded as 'Iran's identity card, or even as a second Iranian flag'.
Fereshteh Dastpak added: "Iran has always been known by its hand-woven carpets."
"Regarding the high quality of Iran's handmade carpet, most exports of hand-woven carpets were made last year, before sanctions came into force," said Dastpak.
Dastpak went on to say: "Now that US President Donald Tramp has unfairly slapped sanctions on Iran, about 30 percent of Iranian hand-woven carpets were exported to the United States, and we have lost that market now, but we are actively looking to substitute other markets for the US and export our hand-woven carpets to other countries."
Dastpak added: "The Chinese are very keen to import hand-woven carpets from Iran and China can be a suitable substitute market, replacing the US market, for export of Iranian carpets. We are also looking to boost our exports to Arab countries, as well as European countries. We are looking for alternative markets to export our high-quality hand-woven carpets."
