Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday in Kabul have emphasized on the need for peace in Afghanistan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Two officials also discussed and exchanged views on the importance of a fully-fledged relationship, a peace process led by Afghans and how to better use the Iranian port of Chabahar.

According to a statement issued by the Afghan Presidential Palace, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented a report on a recent meeting between Iranian officials and a Taliban delegation in the Iranian capital Tehran and reassured the Iranian government's commitment to the principle of leadership and ownership of the Afghan government in the continuation of the peace process.

In the meeting between Iran’s diplomat and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani it was decided that the issues related to Afghanistan in all its aspects will be coordinated to yield effective results.

According to the Afghan media, the continuation of the two countries' talks to finalize a comprehensive strategic partnership document, as well as Taliban delegation’s talks in Tehran were the two most important issues on the agenda of Araghchi and his accompanying delegation's visit to Kabul and their meetings with Afghan officials.

Also on Nov 28, 2018, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif at the international conference on Afghanistan sponsored by the United Nations in Geneva said that Tehran is ready to help the Afghan nation and government in their quest for peace.

Tehran is undertaking in negotiations with Taliban to help settle the existing security problems in Afghanistan.

On Dec 26, 2018, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani after meeting with the National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib in Kabul said that the negotiations will continue in the future.
