The secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) Ayatollah Mohsen Araki has emphasised that the late Grand Ayatollah Shahroudi was highly respected by the Leaders of the Islamic world.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Saturday, on the sideline of the ceremony which was held to commemorate the late chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi in Tehran's Arg Mosque, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki said: "Grand Ayatollah Shahroudi's activities had an international dimension, and he was particularly active in bringing Muslims closer together, his efforts to bring closer the Islamic Schools of Thought are specially noteworthy."

"On the one hand he was very active in the progress of proximity of Islamic schools of thought, doing much for Muslim unity."

Ayatollah Araki also said:  "Late Grand Ayatollah Shahroudi was accepted and highly respected by the leaders of the Islamic world leaders. If you remember when former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi from Muslim Brotherhood party came to Iran, he met with late Ayatollah Shahroudi and expressed his appreciation and devotion to him. This shows the position of late Grand Ayatollah Shahroudi's character in the Islamic world. Remember when a former leader who was appointed by people of a Muslim country like Egypt and he was the leader of an Islamic important party in the Islamic world show his devotion to Ayatollah Shahrodi, this show authentic international character of Ayatollah Shahroudi and this is a reality.

The late Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi passed away at the age of 70 after a long battle with illness.

Ayatollah Shahroudi was born in Najaf, Iraq, in 1948 and had served as a member of the Guardian Council since 1994. He was also a former judiciary chief, and a member of Experts Council. As of 2017, he was also the chairman of the Expediency Council.  105/205/211
