Three Iranian MPs visited IRIB World Service on Monday, to get a first-hand account of its activities, and to meet with the head, Peyman Jebeli.

Iran news: According to an Iran Press report, Peyman Jebeli referred to the good performance of IRIB World Service, adding: "Bearing in mind the modest budget of IRIB World Service in comparison with mainstream foreign media, the World service has done a good job, carrying out its duties to the best of its abilities, and competing very effectively with major Western media organizations, who often covertly or overtly, back various terrorist groups in this region and beyond."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jebeli referred to 'Budgetary restrictions and constraints which hamper our efforts', urging the three parliamentarians to pay special attention to the needs of IRIB World Service for additional funding, and asking the parliament (Majlis) to alleviate budgetary restrictions.

For his part, Gholamreza Kateb, the head of a parliamentary commission, said assistance to the national broadcaster, IRIB, particularly to IRIB World Service which has the task of conveying the message of the Islamic revolution to beyond Iran's borders, is one of the priorities of the Majlis (parliament).

Kateb added: "Given the fact that many IRIB viewers and listeners abroad are interested in Iranian and Islamic lifestyles, IRIB World Service should pay more attention to this issue, and broadcast programmes which inform viewers and audiences about Iranian lifestyle and Islamic lifestyle."

Morteza Saffari, senior MP and a member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, and a member of the visiting parliamentary delegation, said the IRIB plays a vital role in countering the enemy's media war against Iran. Saffari added: "If we support IRIB and in particular IRIB World Service, we can compete effectively with foreign media networks."

Commenting further senior MP Morteza Saffari said: "IRIB World Service is the voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and announces Iran's foreign policy to the world. The parliament (Majlis) will support the IRIB World Service."

Akbar Ranjbarzadeh, a member of the executive committee of the Majlis and the third member of the visiting parliamentary delegation, for his part, said allocating more money to IRIB is a form of investment which in the long-term will pay off, in the sense that it will reduce the costs of the enemy's media war against Iran to a minimum. Ranjbarzadeh said IRIB World Service is doing important and sensitive work.  211 /103
