Iran news: According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred 17 kilometers from Sar Pol-e Zahab and 18 kilometers from Qasr-e Shirin and 33 kilometers from Gilan-e Gharb, Ilam and Kermanshah provinces, at 20:07 (17:37 GMT) hours local time on Sunday.
The tremor was also felt in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and in Kuwait.
Morteza Salimi of Iran's Red Crescent told that 500 people were injured, most of them slightly.
According to Iran Press, no reports of death have so far been received, but a number of injured have referred to the hospitals.
The region was rocked by seven weaker aftershocks an hour after the initial tremor, the strongest of which was magnitude 5.2, the geophysics institue said.
All the schools and universities across the province were declared closed on Monday, a day after the powerful quake hit the province.
All the roads to Kermanshah province are now open and traffic in running on them.
Electricity, gas and water supply are flowing to the affected areas after a half-hour disruption.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi said on Sunday that despite power cut in certain quake-hit areas, telecommunications situation was normal due to the efforts taken in this respect.
23 operational teams were dispatched to the affected areas after a 6.4-magnitude quake hit the western province of Kermanshah.
