Exports of nanotechnology products doubled last year, experiencing a 100% growth compared to the previous year, according to the secretary general of Iran’s Nanotechnology Initiative Council, Saeed Sarkar.

Iran Press/Iran news: Saeed Sarkar said Iran has exported nanotechnology products to about 50 countries in recent years.

According to an Iran Press report, Sarkar added: “Iran has also exported its technical knowledge and expertise in the field of nanotechnology to many countries and today, sales of Iran's nanotechnology products is reaching the $175 million level."

Sarkar also said because Iran is leading research and development in nanotechnology, publishing more research articles than many other countries, it is expected that Iran's nanotechnology exports will further increase in the years to come.

It is predicted that 30 billion rials (about $175 million) of nanotechnology products will be sold by the end of the current Iranian calendar year 1397 (March 20, 2019), an official with Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council announced.

Reza Asadifar said nanotechnology products were exported to 50 countries in the period 2015 - 2017 (1394 to 1396).

He made the remarks at the Nanotechnology Economy Forum, which was held on 19 and 20 November in Tehran.

“The forum provided an opportunity for firms to announce their technological requirements to academics, industry, and innovative companies,” he noted.

He said nanotechnology is used in many industries like printed electronics, production of lithium batteries, solar cells and faucets.

Eleven sanitary faucet manufacturers, which cover 50 percent of the market in Iran, use nanotechnology in their products, he added.

Nano-based products increased from 13 items in 2008 to 494 products in 2018, he said.

There are 194 companies active in the field of nanotechnology in 2018 out of which, 60 percent were initiated as nanotechnology companies and the rest moved into this area of technology later on.

He said Iran is eyeing markets in Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, Georgia, India, Turkmenistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia and China for export of its innovative nanotechnology products. 101/202
