The Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani had meetings with his Russian and Turkish counterparts in Turkish city of Antalia on the side line of Eurasian countries parliamentary meeting, calling for collective action to tackle America's hostile policies.

Iran Press/ AsiaThe Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani who has arrived in the Turkish city of Antalya on Monday 8 October 2018 at the head of a high-ranking delegation comprised of some Iranian MPs to attend the third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments, met with Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russian State Duma on Monday afternoon, according to a Mehr News agency report. 

During the meeting, Larijani referred to "the US aggressive and problematic policies" as one of the major problems that have recently emerged in the world which necessitates cooperation among all countries to confront it.

Larijani called for collective action in the face of US hostile policies, praising Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to save the Iran nuclear deal.

He expressed his satisfaction with the level of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia, saying “banking and oil co-operation between the two countries is developing and some purchases already agreed upon are being implemented.”

The Iranian parliament speaker further said that Iran’s offer to host a security and counter-terrorism meeting has remained in place and its relevant invitations have been sent to Eurasian countries' Parliaments and Iran is still waiting for their responses to set a date for the meeting.

Vyacheslav Volodin, for his part, described Iran as an important country for bilateral cooperation with Russia and emphasized the expansion of relations between the two countries, especially in parliamentary affairs.

Volodin said that the first round of meetings between Speakers of Eurasian countries' Parliaments was held in Moscow at Russian legislative body’s suggestion, adding that cooperation between parliaments of the member states is strengthening and the Antalya meeting will consolidate those ties.

On the same day, the speaker of the Majlis met his Turkish counterpart Binali Y?ld?r?m, who is speaker of the Turkish parliament.

Larijani is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the Antalia summit on Tuesday, and he is expected to have bilateral meetings with speakers of parliaments from Serbia, Iraq, Qatar, and Kazakhstan. He is also expected to have a trilateral meeting with speakers of parliaments of Turkey and Russia, on the sidelines of Antalia summit.

The theme of this round of the Eurasian Countries' Parliaments meeting is ‘Economic Cooperation, Environment and Sustainable Development in Eurasia.’

Upon Larijani's arrival, the Iranian parliament speaker was welcomed by the deputy speaker of the Turkish parliament, the deputy general governor of Antalya as well as the Iranian ambassador to Ankara.

“The main goal of the summit is to create closer links between the countries in the Eurasia region, particularly trade and economic ties and closer parliamentary cooperation,” Larijani told reporters at the Kaya Palazzo Hotel, where the international parliamentary event is going to kick off on Tuesday 9 October, and will last for three full days.

He added “naturally, sustainable development this time in the environment is one of the issues that the meeting will focus on because it is a matter of common concern between all countries.”

“The financial and monetary treaties between countries are among other issues that are established between Iran, Turkey and Russia” he said, adding that such treaties can be developed among other countries.
