The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in his tweeter page called US government an ‘outlaw regime’ by slamming Washington action in abolishing a Treaty of Amity with Tehran.

Iran PressIran news- The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reacted to US action in terminating a 1955 Treaty of Amity with Iran in a tweet, saying “the US current administration an ‘outlaw regime.’

In his tweet, Zarif further said US abrogated JCPOA -a multilateral accord enshrined in UNSC Resolution 2231- arguing that it seeks a bilateral treaty with Iran.

Today, US withdrew from an actual US-Iran treaty after the ICJ ordered it to stop violating that treaty in sanctioning Iranian people.”

The Iranian foreign minister’s tweet came an hour after the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced his country’s withdrawal from a Treaty of Amity with Iran following the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in favor of Iran.

Top UN court orders US to lift Iran sanctions

The International Court of Justice ordered the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that affect imports of humanitarian goods and products and services linked to the safety of civil aviation.

Judges at the International Court Of Justice handed a victory to Tehran which had asked  the International Court in the Hague to order US to lift sanctions ordered by the Trump administration against Tehran, according to Reuters.

Iran's foreign minister welcomed UN court interim verdict against US and said the ruling was another failure for sanctions-addicted' US government.

 

The US secretary of state’s illegal action come despite the fact that the President of International Court of Justice had sent a letter to the Mike Pompeo back in July calling on the US to refrain from taking any further actions regarding anti-Iran sanctions.

Tehran filed its case before the International Court of Justice in late July, calling on the Hague-based tribunal's judges to order the immediate lifting of sanctions, which Tehran said would cause "irreparable prejudice."

During four days of hearings in late August, Iran's lawyers accused Washington of "strangling" its economy.

Washington however forcefully told the court – which rules on disputes between United Nations member states – that it has no jurisdiction to rule on this case as it concerns a matter of national security.

Rulings by the ICJ are binding and cannot be appealed, but it has no way to enforce its decisions.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Tehran and the world powers in 2015.

Washington has since told countries they must stop buying the OPEC producer's oil from November 4 or face financial consequences.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

Donald Trump’s decision to scrap the nuclear deal was sharply criticised by other signatories of the deal, who have pledged to uphold their side of the agreement.
