Iran's foreign minister welcomed UN court interim verdict against US and said the ruling was another failure for sanctions-addicted' US government.

Iran PressIran news- "UN top court rules that US must comply with obligations violated by re-imposing sanctions on Iranian people when exiting #JCPOA. Another failure for sanctions-addicted USG and victory for rule of law," Mohammad-Javad Zarif wrote in his latest tweet on Wednesday.

He also said that the international community must work together against "malign US unilateralism

Iran's Foreign Ministry also welcomed the United Nation's top court's order and said in a statement that the verdict proves "Iran's righteousness and US' illegitimate and oppressive sanctions."

The order also proves that Washington is isolated further due to its "wrong" policies vis-a-vis other independent countries, the statement said.

"World public opinion and all independent countries will, with peace of mind, strive... to keep and carry out the JCPOA," it added, using the official acronym for the nuclear agreement.

The International Court of Justice, handed Iran a legal victory over the US on Wednesday and ordered the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that affect imports of humanitarian goods and products and services linked to the safety of civil aviation.

The ICJ unanimously ruled that Washington "shall remove by means of its choosing any impediments arising from the measures announced on May 8 to the free exportation to Iran of medicines and medical devices, food and agricultural commodities."

The Netherlands-based court said sanction on goods "required for humanitarian needs... may have a serious detrimental impact on the health and lives of individuals on the territory of Iran."

The UN court decision strengthens Iran's argument in the international arena that the country is the victim of a unilateral US violation of the nuclear accord. It also gives weight to Iran's position that the sanctions amount to collective punishment on the Iranian people.

Rulings by the ICJ are binding and cannot be appealed, but it has no way to enforce its decisions.
