Iran's Red Crescent Organization announced the opening of 150 Red Crescent projects in government week.

Ali Asghar Peyvandi, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said that The IRCS has a 95-year history, and four major tasks of promoting health, promoting a sense of humanity, reducing human problems and suffering, and honoring humans as an independent and nonprofit organization.

Peyvandi added that the IRCS acts not only within the country but also in the world as a powerful member of an international body that has a duty to serve humanity.

When the immigrant crisis broke out in Bangladesh, the Red Crescent sent aid to the people there, and our cash and non-cash donations continued to alleviate problems of local people. Also 100 tons of food were sent to Bangladesh, Peyvandi added.

He criticized  sanctions against Iran, saying the outrageous sanctions will cause suffering, and the Red Crescent Society will suffer too. These sanctions will affect the entire population.

Meanwhile, Bahram Gheibi, Deputy Director for Support & Human Resource Development of IRCS said that 23 Red Crescent development and relief projects, including road and mountain relief bases, office building, pharmacy, shelter and relief warehouse, helicopter pad and ... were opened in 10 Iranian provinces during government week.

The Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1922 and has participated in many public activities such as establishing maternity hospitals, setting up clinics with free medical services, supplying drinking water, constructing graveled roads and helping the army health centers.

IRCS is currently the country’s main humanitarian organization and one of the active members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. At present, most of the National Society’s activities are focused on rendering relief services to the victims of natural and man-made disasters. Other fields of the National Society’s activities cover the setup of medical and rehabilitation centers, production of medical supplies and medicines and the management of youth and volunteer affairs.
