Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov

Russia and its allies are going to take steps to counter new US sanctions against Iran which are said to be imposed on Iran Monday.

Iran Press/ Europe: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov made the announcement Monday, a day after Trump threatened Tehran with new sanctions as part of his administration's "maximum pressure campaign" against the Islamic Republic.

Ryabkov did not specify what those steps would be but said that the imposition of US sanctions would aggravate tensions. He also urged Washington to seek dialogue with Tehran, instead of imposing new sanctions, PressTV reported.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran are illegal.

Trump has said the United States will impose "major" new sanctions on Iran in two days - a move sure to exacerbate tensions with the Islamic Republic.

Iran has emphasized no more sanctions have remained for the US to impose on Iran.

"US administration has already imposed every kind of sanctions on Iranian individuals and companies and has launched economic terrorism and war against Iran. There is no more type of sanctions that may have been untried by the US,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a press conference on Monday.
