The EU's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini has emphasized the role of the United Nations in the peace process in Syria.

IranPress/Europ: In a joint press conference with Geir Pedersen, the United Nations special envoy for Syria, following the 'Supporting the future of Syria and the region' conference on March 13, the EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the EU believes that only a UN-led peace-seeking process with a view to ethnic diversity within Syria can create lasting peace.

Mogherini said that the stance of all EU member countries in solving the Syrian problem is the same, and there is no difference, adding that in order to achieve peace, a political solution must be found.

According to an Iran Press report, the conference 'Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region' was held this year for the third consecutive year in Brussels Belgium due to an initiative of the European Union.

In addition to the political and decision-makers from neighboring countries and aid countries, the conference also includes human rights groups and Syrian and regional activists.

According to the European Union, the Syrian crisis has entered its ninth year while more than 11 million Syrians need humanitarian assistance and more than five million people have been displaced from Syria.  208/211/103
