Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres discussed the crisis in Syria, and the situation in the country, over the phone.

Iran press/Europe: There was an exchange of opinions regarding issues on the UN agenda with a special emphasis on Syrian settlement, SANA quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement on Monday.

Lavrov and Guterres also discussed the prospects for increasing the effectiveness of the United Nations, including its conflict-prevention and peace-making efforts Quoted by IRNA news agency.

Russia  is considered as one of the  guarantor nations for the Syrian ceasefire together with  Iran and Turkey.

The  representatives   of these countries met in Sochi , Russia, on Monday July 30,2018  to discuss issues regarding the formation of the Syrian constitutional committee, the situation in de-escalation zones, as well as humanitarian items on the agenda, including strengthening trust measures and returning Syrian refugees home. On the first day, expert consultations will take place. On July 31, there was  a plenary session.

More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria and millions have been driven from their homes since the conflict began in March 2011, and the infrastructure of the country destroyed.

These guarantor nations  agreed on the draft of a final statement to be issued at the 10th Syria international peace conference.
