Iran Press/ Middle East: Lebanon’s president has told a visiting American delegation that Beirut rejects the US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights because it includes Lebanese areas annexed by Israel, Almasirah reported.
President Aoun told the delegation that included Republican US Reps. Adam Kinzinger and Vicente Gonzalez that Lebanon has the right to work on regaining this lined 'by all available means.'
Earlier, the Lebanese president had condemned US President Donald Trump's recognition of Syria's Golan Heights as 'sovereign Israeli territory' saying the measure was in blatant violation of international law.
Two weeks ago, Trump signed a proclamation in which the United States recognized the strategic plateau as Israeli territory, breaking with decades of US policy.
Russia and China spoke out against the US decision during the council meeting as did Indonesia and South Africa, two countries that strongly support the Palestinians.
Three UN Security Council resolutions call on Israel to withdraw from the Golan, which it seized from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and annexed in 1981, in a move that was never recognized internationally.
