Zarif meets with Taliban political chief

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif talked with the head of the Taliban's political bureau Mullah Baradar and his accompanying team of negotiators, as part of Iran's efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Following the meetings of the officials and the special envoy of the Iranian Foreign Minister with various Afghan officials, including Afghanistan's president, chief executive officer, Afghanistan's High Peace Council, local tribal leaders and influential figures, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with head of the Taliban's political bureau Mullah Baradar and his entourage and accompanying team of negotiators in Tehran. 

At this meeting, Iran's Foreign Minister emphasized the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to assist intra-Afghan dialogue with the participation of the government and all influential political forces, Iran Press reported.

Zarif also highlighted Iran's readiness to expand economic and cultural cooperation with the country and the people of Afghanistan on the basis of shared regional interests.

The meeting was in line with the Islamic Republic's efforts to return peace and stability to Afghanistan. Its most important goals are have been announced as persuading Afghan parties to participate in Afghan-Afghan dialogue, encouraging resolution of problems through dialogue and support for all Afghan forces in order to find a common ground for cooperation to bring about the withdrawal of foreign forces and ensure Afghanistan's security after the withdrawal of foreign troops.
