IRGC, Army to hold third joint aerial parade

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army are to hold joint aerial parades on Sep. 22.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The third joint aerial parades of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Army and the IRGC will be held on September 22 on the occasion of the Holy Defense Week and hosted by martyr Abdolkarimi air defense base in Bandar Abbas (Southern Iran)," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army's Air Force Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi told the reporters Thursday on the sidelines of a test flight of the force's bombers that are preparing for the parade.

General Vahedi added that different heavy bomber fighters, light cargo planes, helicopters and patrolling and reconnaissance aircraft from the Air Force, the Navy and the IRGC Aerospace Force will participate in the parade.

He went on to say that the parades aim to show Iran's authority and the capabilities of the country's Armed Forces, create unity and empathy between IRGC and Army forces, and send a message of peace and friendship to the friendly and neighboring states.

He emphasized Iran's role in the establishment of security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, saying, "The security of these waters will be established only by regional states. The presence of foreigners in the region will cause unrepairable damage to the security structure of this international waterway."

The parades mark the start of the Sacred Defense Week, commemorating Iranians' sacrifices during the 8 years of the Ba'athist Iraqi imposed war against Iran 1980-1988.
