Spokesman for the Guardian Council, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaie

The Spokesman for the Guardian Council has forthrightly condemned Canada for its "state-sponsored economic terrorism" against Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Abbas Ali Kadkhodaie said on Saturday that the Canadian government is practicing "state-sponsored economic terrorism" against Tehran by selling the country's frozen assets in Canada.

"Economic terrorism is a method used by Western countries to seize or confiscate other nations' economic assets and resources by misusing legal tools and without going through legal due process," Kadkhodaie wrote on his Twitter page.

"Confiscation of the Iranian government's assets by Canada is a clear instance of state-sponsored economic terrorism," he added.

The Canadian government has recently gifted some $30 million of Iranian assets to the victims of various terrorist attacks, with Iran categorically rejecting any link or involvement in the terror attacks.

The victims have received a share of the money obtained through the sale of two Iranian-owned buildings in Ottawa and Toronto, according to a document filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in August.

Iran has denied any role in the attacks which the Canadian courts have based their cases upon to confiscate Iran's frozen assets.

Tehran had argued that the victims had to prove Iran’s role or involvement in each attack instead of just repeating the baseless and unsubstantiated US government allegations against Tehran.
