Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami made his remark in the unveiling ceremony of Iranian “Bavar-373” homemade air defense system in the attendance of president Hassan Rouhani.
Stressing that Iran's deterrence power has been guaranteed for long Brigadier General Hatami said in the situation of all kinds of imposed sanctions against Iran, Iranian armed forces achieved all they defensive need by local technology, Iran Press reported.
Highlighting that in the field of missile technology Iran has developed with the production of precision missiles, Brigadier General Hatami noted: "Based on the notable and historical fatwas of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the field of missiles, Iranian Armed Forces have not designed any kind of unconventional missiles and only commit themselves to increase Iran's deterrence power with conventional weapons."
"Iranian Armed forces under sanctions reach to the tangible defense progress," he noted.
Hatami further announced that Iran's military might rank up 7 to the world's 18th and the country's defense ministry is engaged in defense diplomacy with friend countries.
Bavar-373 is a mobile missile defense system designed to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets flying at altitudes of up to 65 kilometers. The system employs missiles that have a maximum range of 300 kilometers.
The long-range defense system is capable of detecting up to 100 targets simultaneously and engages six targets at a time.
The system is a competitor to Russia’s S-300 missile system and brings quite a few substantial upgrades over its Russian equivalent.
Iran has recently made breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing military equipment and hardware despite facing sanctions and Western economic pressure.
The Islamic Republic says its military power is solely meant for defensive purposes and does not pose any threat to other countries. 205/208
