Omani and Iranian officials discussed on Wednesday ways to increase trade and direct investment between the two countries in capital city of Oman.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Reza Rahmani, discussed means of cooperation and development of bilateral relations with Omani minister of Commerce and Industry Masoud Sunaidi on late Wednesday, Iran Press reported.

Rahmani and his delegation arrived in the Omani capital of Muscat on Tuesday for days of visit.

According to a statement by the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in the meeting between the Omani ministry head  and visiting Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, development of bilateral ties in various economic fields, especially minerals, industry and manpower were discussed.

Rahmani also had meeting with Oman's Minister of Transport and Communications Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al-Futaisi.

The Omani newspaper said the two ministers discussed ways of boosting trade and cooperating on the exploration of mineral resources.

The meeting was attended by officials from the two countries in the fields of trade, industry, mining and shipping, the ministry statement said.

Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and commercial ties.

Oman’s Sultan Qaboos played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and the world power which resulted in the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and Oman have also held several naval exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent years.

On April 19, high-ranking military officials from Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various military spheres.203/209
