Iran Press/Iran news: Mohammad Javad Zarif who is now in India, departed Turkmenistan for New Delhi on Monday night.
According to an Iran Press report, speaking at Ashgabat airport, Zarif said: "India is one of Iran's major trading partners and a major purchaser of Iranian oil. We cooperate with New Delhi on many issues. Thus it is necessary from time to time for Iranian and Indian officials to consult with one another."
A few months ago, Mohammad Javad Zarif had attended the RAISINA meeting during his last trip to India. He also held meetings with Indian officials on developing relations.
The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held in New Delhi annually. Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.
Zarif, heading a high-ranking economic delegation, arrived in Ashgabat on Sunday for a series of talks with senior Turkmen officials.
Earlier on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
The Iranian foreign minister and Turkmen officials discussed various bilateral, regional and international issues of concern.
Iran and Turkmenistan share a 1,000 km border, including the Caspian Sea coastline.
The two sides have enjoyed good relations since Turkmenistan gained its independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. 103/211
